UNIFORMED SERVICES UNIVERSITY OF THE HEALTH SCIENCES: INFORMATION SESSION

USUHS is a unique medical school with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention located in Bethesda, Maryland on the grounds of the Walter Reed National Military Center. Shawntell Williams, Diversity Recruiter at USUHS will hold an information session for our Pre-Health students on the opportunities provided by “America’s Medical school.” Students attending USUHS can receive a debt-free medical school education and receive the full salary and benefits of a uniformed officer throughout their four years in exchange for a seven-year active duty service commitment. No prior service is required. These benefits include free medical care for students and dependents and 30-days paid leave annually. Opportunity for Q&A will follow the presentation.

PA Mihelis earned her PA degree at Touro College. She has worked as a clinical PA for the Pediatric/Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Jamaica hospital. She has also worked at North Shore Manhasset as a Surgical PA in the Adults/Peds/Trauma/Thoracic/General followed by Intensive Care Unit. PA Mihelis has also earned her MBA at Hofstra in Health Administration. She has worked at LIJ in the Cardiac Valve Clinic running a Cardiac Valve Program and currently works at Lenox Hill. She will be transitioning to a new Director role in the near future- Director Research for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Lenox Hill. She also conducts medical missions for children requiring cleft lip/palate repair.

The Rockefeller University Science Outreach Program (RockEdu) Information Session

The Rockefeller University Science Outreach Program (RockEdu) is seeking passionate Hunter College students of science to volunteer for their LAB Experience program for middle and high school students. These classes are designed to introduce young men and women to the rigors of basic and translational research science. By sharing this day with undergraduate and graduate students in our relaxed laboratory environment, students are exposed to diverse role models who help present science as an accessible path of study. Dr. Jeanne Garbarino, Director of Science Outreach will discuss the program and recruit volunteers.

University of Rochester Medical School Early Assurance Program Information Session

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) offers an Early Assurance Program (EAP) to a select group of highly qualified college sophomores who attend Hunter College. The EAP offers a conditional acceptance to URMC following the successful completion of your four-year undergraduate degree. The Doctor Speaker Series-Dr. Erica Phillips-Caesar

Join us for a discussion with Dr. Erica Phillips, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Phillips-Caesar received her medical degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1998 and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2001. She received a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research in 2003 from Weill Cornell. Dr. Phillips was one of the founding physicians of the Weight Management Practice at Weill Cornell Internal Medicine Associates. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Weill Cornell Heart 2 Heart Information Session

This will be an informational event about community outreach campaigns and clinical research, such as the Heart 2 Heart(H2H) program. There will be guest speakers from Weill Cornell, including MD-PhD students of various backgrounds and various personnel such as research coordinators. This event will discuss about what community outreach consists of and how these guest speakers have gotten involved in this campaign of public health.
