Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) Application Workshop
The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) formerly known as SMDEP is a free summer enrichment program focused on improving access to information and resources for college students interested in the health professions. SHPEP’s goal is to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development of students interested in the health professions and prepare them for a successful application and matriculation to health professions schools. This workshop will include: - Information about the benefits of SHPEP - Meet past SHPEP participants - A walk-through the application process.
Princeton Review CARS MCAT Review Session
Join us for a CARS review session. There are many myths about the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS) section, one of which is that your score depends on luck. If you happen to get “good” passages, all is well, but if you don’t, you are in trouble. It’s practice not luck that will help you conquer the MCAT CARS section. Hunter SNMA-MAPS will provide refreshments.
Examkrackers MCAT Biology Review
Join for a MCAT biology review from Examkrackers. Many students struggle with this section on the exam and studying tips/strategies to do well, are essential to succeeded. Hunter SNMA-MAPS will provide refreshments.
Everything You Need to Know about Being a Pre-Health Student
This workshop is geared towards students who are interested in going on to professional health care programs of medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary and podiatric medicine. This workshop is designed to ensure students learn the basic information and can begin meeting the requirements for competitive application. Topics include: • Academic Expectations • Prerequisite courses • How to develop your Pre-Health Portfolio • Characteristics of a Competitive Applicant To register with the Pre-Health Advising Office and to start a Pre-Health file, your attendance is REQUIRED.
Clinical Volunteering 101 for Pre-Health Students
Shari Sirkin Kaplan, the C.A.R.E. (Care and Respect for Elders in Emergencies) volunteer program director at Mount Sinai Hospital will be conducting workshop about clinical volunteering and will also recruit students to serve as volunteers in the Emergency Department . This is a highly sought after placement for anyone interested in pursuing an education and career in health. This is a required workshop for Pre-Health students.
Community Service Volunteering for Pre-Health Students
Chivis Alanis, Senior Director of Community Health at the American Heart Association’s will conduct a community service workshop. This presentation will also provide a walk through of the American Heart Association’s mission, programs, volunteer opportunities and community events. It will include a discussion of the role of the volunteer in efforts to improve the heart health for all communities. The objective this event is also to deepen your understanding of the American Heart Association and to share how your involvement will have a significant impact in saving lives! This is a required workshop for Pre-Health students.
Spring 2018 Pre-Health New Student Orientation
The Pre-Health New Student Orientation is designed to provide detailed information to students who are new to Hunter College about the Pre-Health program. This orientation is intended for new students who will enter Hunter College in Spring 2018 and are planning to apply to Medical, Dental, Optometry, Podiatry or Veterinary school. Join us to meet the Pre-Health advising staff and learn what you need to do NOW to start building a strong application to professional school. Please plan to arrive 20 minutes prior to the start of the session. We look forward to meeting you!
