Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine Master of Science Information Session

The Master of Science program in Interdisciplinary Studies in Biological and Physical Sciences has been carefully designed for students who have the strong ambition to complete a medical education. The program is intended to immerse students in the Medical College curriculum so that candidates can determine whether the content satisfies their academic curiosity while the Medical College evaluates their potential for professional success. Student performance will be closely followed with frequent evaluations and advising throughout each term. Admission to the DO Program at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine is an important feature. Typically, 30-35 MS students are offered direct admission to TouroCOM each year.

Keck School of Medicine Global Medicine Information Session

The Keck School of Medicine Global Medicine program aims to answer the urgent, worldwide need for professional training in concepts of global health. The Global Medicine program provides a foundation in medical science that is needed to analyze, understand and solve worldwide health issues. Students have the opportunity to take courses abroad to learn about health policy, healthcare delivery systems and gain clinical experience. It’s a great gap year option for pre-med/pre-health students, and can also help those who need to enhance their academics before applying to health professional schools. Many students go on to professional schools after completing this program, with the majority going on to medical school.

Doctor Speakers Series: Dr. Camari H. Wallace

Join us for an engaging discussion with Dr. Camari H. Wallace, an Anesthesiologist and Interventional Pain Management Fellow at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. He attained his Medical Degree from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Montefiore. Dr. Wallace started his academic journey at New York University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and East Asian Studies. While in college, he took an interest in Chinese language and decided to live abroad and study at Peking University. He later enrolled at Columbia University, where he completed his Post Baccalaureate in Pre-Medical Studies as a gateway to entering medical school. Born, raised, and educated in New York City, Dr. Wallace enjoys working in the community that has shaped his life and career.

Latino Medical Student Association Bridge Program Information Session

The mission of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) is to create a LMSA bridge program with students at Hunter College. Essentially it is a program at Hunter for Latino students interested in going into medicine that would have a direct line of communication with LMSA students at Weill Cornell. Students at Hunter will have access to resources, enrichment opportunities, counseling and mentorship. The goal is to foster the growth and pave the path to a career in medicine not only for Latino students but for students in the CUNY system.

Spanish and Community Health in Latin America Study Abroad Information Session

Dr. Jorge Nowalski will discuss the Spanish and Community Health summer program in Costa Rica. Hunter College joins forces with the International Center for Development Studies (ICDS) and Hospital Clinica Biblica to offer students planning to enter health professions a six-week program, which will provide them the opportunity to explore health care issues in a developing country while furthering their Spanish language skills and gaining an understanding of the life and culture of Costa Rica. The Spanish for Health Sciences offers two levels of Spanish language instruction, intermediate and advanced. Students will be placed in the appropriate level based on an oral placement exam taken upon arrival. The course will prepare students to interview patients, complete patients' files and medical reports, and read texts of medical relevance effectively. The Health Care in Latin America course is intended to create a unique experience for students interested in Latin American and Caribbean Health issues. The course will focus on public health assessment strategies. Through the course, students will be exposed to current challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean and reach an understanding of the way global public health issues unfold in the region. As part of the program students will visit various types of clinics, as well as other points of medical service.
