Audiology Services
COVID-19 Update
Audiology services have resumed at the Brookdale campus. Every client for audiology and each individual accompanying them must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination for each and every appointment. Services are only offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. Proof of vaccination is required to be shown to the public safety officers upon campus entry and to the HCCCD clinicians when entering the clinic.
Proof can be in the form of the Excelsior App or COVID-19 vaccination card.

Hearing testing services are offered to all individuals seeking assistance. Patients of all backgrounds, cultures and disabilities, from infancy through seniors, are helped at the HCCCD. The Center is not a Medicaid provider and accepts no health insurances; a sliding scale can be applied for individuals demonstrating financial need. Two test rooms and the hearing aid dispensary are handicap-accessible, state-of-the-art audiological sound suites with safety glass doors and large patient/tester viewing windows which completely eliminate any anxiety some patients may suffer when in enclosed spaces.
Audiologic testing is offered in collaboration with the CUNY Doctor of Audiology Program. Students actively participate in:
- Routine evaluations include patient history, self-assessment, otoscopy, pure tone, masking, speech audiometry, otoacoustic emissions, immittance and acoustic reflex testing.
- Specialized assessments offered by the HCCCD include auditory brainstem response (ABR) evaluations and auditory processing disorder testing.
- Recourse hearing testing is available for New York City and State civil service examinations.
- Hearing aid checks for current users of amplification are performed utilizing self-assessments and real-ear measurements. The HCCCD dispenses musician's earplugs, swimmolds and assistive listening devices.
As the relationship between hearing and speech-language development is well understood, all clients receiving speech-language diagnostic evaluations undergo audiological testing.
In addition, the HCCCD offers an outreach hearing screening program to schools, senior centers and health fairs in which students actively participate. (COVID-19 update: this service has been temporarily suspended. Please check here for updates when outreach hearing screenings will become available again.)
