Drs. Stamos & Shen Develop Novel 3D Detection System

Prof. Stamos

Dr. Stamos and his former PhD student Dr. Xiaoke Shen developed a novel 3D detection and classification system from 3D range images with applications in robotics. The novelty of the work involves its efficient use of 3D CNNs as well as its ability to perform without 2D color images in low-lighting situations.
The work was published in Sensors this February: https://doi.org/10.3390/s21041213
Dr. Stamos is a professor in Computer Science at Hunter College, CUNY. He is interested in developing novel machine learning algorithms for robotic perception.
