Dr. Frances Colon, Science Advisor to Secretary of State John Kerry, was Featured Speaker in the 'Science 200' Class at Hunter
Dr. Frances Colon, Deputy Science and Technology Adviser to Secretary of State John Kerry, was the featured speaker in the Science 200 Introduction to Science Research class at Hunter on October 7. This was a special section of Science 200 attended by minority science students in RISE and MARC programs. Dr. Colon gave a riveting presentation on the role of science in foreign policy beginning with a recent example the Iran nuclear negotiations, and then covering other topics that resonated with our students such as the barriers that women face in entering STEM careers and achieving long term success. Dr. Colon then met with a group of minority doctoral students to discuss career options. The meeting was hosted by the RISE and MARC programs, by Associate Provost Vanya Quinones-Jenab, and by Prof. Steve Greenbaum, Department of Physics & Astronomy, who had been a Jefferson Science Fellow at the State Department last year when he first met Dr. Colon.
