Dr. Mark Hauber's Research Paper on Fairy Wrens Appears in 'Forbes' Magazine
Mark Hauber, Acting Associate Provost for Research and a Professor in the Psychology Department, co-authored a research paper on prenatal learning in the fairy wren which was recently published in Forbes magazine. Hauber, working with his colleagues Diane Colombelli-Négrel, Michael S. Webster, Jenelle L. Dowling, and Sonia Kleindorfer, discovered that "nestlings of Australia’s Red-backed Fairy-wrens learn their mother’s calls before they hatch," [and that] "these calls are a “vocal password” that the parents rely upon to identify their chicks."
