Professor Emerita Maria Nicolai Paynter Receives Premio Flaiano for Her New Book
Professor emerita Maria Nicolai Paynter, of the Romance Languages department, is the recipient of the 2017 Premio Flaiano in the category of Italian Studies for her most recent publication, On Friendship and Freedom: The Correspondence of Ignazio Silone and Marcel Fleischmann. The Premi Flaiano are a set of Italian international awards recognizing achievements in literature, cinema, theatre and radio-television. Established to honour the Italian author and screenwriter Ennio Flaiano (1910-1972), the prizes have been awarded annually since 1974 at the Teatro Monumentale Gabriele D'Annunzio in Pescara, Flaiano’s hometown in Abruzzo, Italy. Professor Paynter will be honored in Pescara on July 9, 2017.
