Professor Nari Ward Receives Vilcek Prize in Fine Arts
The Vilcek Foundation has announced that Professor Nari Ward, of the Hunter Art Department, is the recipient of a $100,000 Vilcek Prize in Fine Arts, which recognizes "immigrants who have made lasting contributions to American society through their extraordinary achievements in biomedical research and the arts and humanities," according to an article on the ArtForum website. The Foundation has not honored a visual artist since 2006 in the fine arts category. As an artist, Ward says that he seeks to acknowledge that “history is just a big fiction with different moments of truth, and that’s the thing that I really feel I am searching for, to create an object that has this rich dialogue of possibilities for the viewer.”
