2013 Japanese Consul General's Commendation

Professor Sue Atsuko Kawashima (Classical and Oriental Studies, Japanese Studies Division) will be awarded the Consul General of Japan's Commendation for 2013 on April 15.  The Consul General is recognizing Professor Kawashima for her excellent contributions in promoting Japanese Studies in the United States as founder and head of the Japanese Studies Division of Hunter's Department of Classical and Oriental Studies.  The Consul will also commend Professor Kawashima for her contributions to cultural exchanges and friendship between Japan and the United States.  In addition to her work in Japanese Studies at Hunter, she also serves as a screening committee member for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) at the Consulate General of Japan in New York, a program that offers Americans opportunities to work as English teaching assistants at public schools in Japan.
