Professor Ricardo Miranda to Participate in 'Future Perfect' Exhibition, Part of Symposium on Arts & Technology

Professor Ricardo Miranda, of the Film & Media Department, has been awarded an Independent Scholarship/Fellowship by the Ammerman Center for Arts & Technology at Connecticut College. Professor Miranda will participate in Future Perfect, an exhibition that's part of the Sixteenth Biennial Symposium on Arts & Technology at the Center, which is part of Connecticut College  https://www.conncoll.edu/cat/symposium2018/exhibitions/hygienic-future-perfect/  . Miranda will present a "VR piece - "REALIDAD_VE" - in which the user virtually traverses a blank space populated by a panicked citizenry and soldiers that stand at ease while listening to an account of the current Venezuelan instability by retired musician and former director of the Venezuelan National Symphony,  Jose Bergher."

In addition to his work at the Ammerman Center, Professor Miranda was selected to present at the College Art Association's New Media Caucus Member Showcase in Los Angeles, where he'll be representing Hunter College, among faculty from other top universities - Cornell, UCSC, Hopkins, Pepperdine, and Loyola Marymount among them http://www.newmediacaucus.org/nmc-at-caa-2018/

Miranda also recently hosted Japanese artist Elico Suzuki in Hunter's Black Box theatre for a John Cage-like improvisational performance.  According to Miranda, "...using hand-made electronics, toys, kitchen utensils, lights, projection and a piano, Suzuki created an electronic circuit as an accompaniment to her singing, [having] composed the circuit as part of the performance." The students in the audience, said Miranda, found the performance "transformative."
