NIH Awards Hunter Professor Grant to Study the Geography of HIV Risk among Asian Immigrant Female Sex Workers in NYC and LA
John Chin, Associate Professor in Urban Affairs and Planning, was awarded a $430,000 NIH grant for a joint study with UCLA on the geography of HIV risk among Asian immigrant female sex workers in NYC and Los Angeles. Venue-level HIV risk factors may cluster geographically, an understanding of which could lead to more effective targeting of risk-reduction interventions. Furthermore, comparing two cities with different law enforcement environments regarding sex work provides a unique opportunity for ascertaining how variations in policy enforcement shape HIV risk.
