Hunter CSCI Majors Win Hackathon at SheHACKS
Hunter CSCI majors Sarah Mathew and Lily Caplan recently took part in SheHACKS, a hackathon for women in Boston. Their team (with 4 other women) took first place in the Disaster category with S1REN, a system they built for first-responder dispatchers. According to Professor Susan Epstein, of the Computer Science Department, "our supercoders pulled tweets that expressed distress due to a disaster and used machine learning to group them by location. Their cash prize [of $250] went to a charity of their choice, but they also brought home great headphones and the glow of a job well done!"
