2nd Annual Conference for the Center of Studies of the Canary Islands and the Americas Held at Hunter

Professor Maria Hernandez-Ojeda, of the Department of Romance Languages, along with her colleague Germán Santana-Perez (Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), organized and introduced "The Limits of the Atlantic II: Transit and Migrations," the second annual congress for the Center of Studies of the Canary Islands and the Americas, which was held at Hunter on September 18 and 19.  As the program suggests, http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/romancelanguages/ceca/program-conference-2015  the conference brought together high-profile scholars from the Canary Islands, Cuba, the UK, and the US.  Professor Hernandez-Ojeda called the conference "a wonderful opportunity to engage in academic scholarship about the role of archipelagos in Atlantic history while offering a critical perspective on traditional academic eurocentrism."
