Team of Hunter Students Emerges as a Finalist in CUNY-IBM Watson Case Competition

The Hunter Hawks, a team of Hunter students mentored by Dr. Felisa Vázquez-abad (of the Computer Science Department), were among those chosen to participate in the CUNY-IBM Case Competition final presentations at Baruch College. Eleven teams, consisting of 41 students from six CUNY colleges, were asked to come up with 'innovative ideas for improving Higher Education or services provided by New York City, using IBM Watson's cognitive computing capability,' according to organizers of the competition. The students representing Hunter on the Hawks were Thomas Ward (Team Leader) and Julissa Lorenzo Vázquez, both graduate students at the School of Education; and Uman Shahzad and Kevin Sánchez, undergraduate students in the Computer Science Department.
